Who this desk is for
Authors who are already writing — a series, or a standalone that still needs a cast and a world. Authors who want a second look at continuity, pacing and prose, then want to keep their own judgement. Authors who care that the live draft can leave with them as markdown, not only as a store file.
It is not for people who want a machine to write the next chapter. It is not a social calendar, and it is not a one-click publish button. If that is the pitch you came here for, the comparison page will save you a signup.
Productivity that does not steal the draft
“Author productivity” too often means a generator with a word-count trophy. The useful version is quieter. Import the draft you have. Keep characters and places on a series bible you can open from a name in the chapter. Pin the when so book two does not invent a new winter. If a chapter already said something you will need again, ask the desk to keep that claim with the sentence. Ask for review notes when you want them. Apply the ones you agree with.
Autosave keeps up while you write. Revisions keep earlier versions; restore snapshots the live draft first. Focus hides the chrome so the page is the book. None of that writes prose for you.
Built in the UK
I am Chris Vanderplank. I write fiction and software from the United Kingdom, and I run Maldric through Intrepid Developer. The public site and the desk use British English. The manuscript dictionary can be British or American English — your choice, on Settings. Hosting for stored manuscripts is in an EU region; the privacy policy names the processors and what they see.
You still upload to the retailer yourself. Check their current guidance — including AI disclosure — before you press publish. I will not tell you which box to tick.
The offer, without an invitation
Registration is open. No invitation. Creating a desk does not take a card and does not start a subscription. You subscribe later in Settings if you want to keep writing after the trial.
New authors get 30 days on the full desk, then one price: £2.99 a month, with 500 credits for when you ask Maldric for help. Writing and downloads do not use them.
You can take the files with you during the trial and after it. I post short build notes on Notes — that page is not a blog. If you want the product in one screen, start on the home page.
A question the FAQ misses: write to me.
